Important things to be noted Civil service (UPSC) 2019 notification : reservation for EWS ( Economically weaker section )

Certain changes have been made in the UPSC Civil Services (IAS) examination as per the notification released on February 19, 2019. These changes are very important for the IAS aspirants belonging to EWS regarding the number of attempts, age relaxation, and the form filling guidelines.

online application process started on February 19, 2019, and will end on March 18, 2019.

Important things to know for UPSC IAS examination 2019

This year, the UPSC has notified 896 vacancies in the UPSC IAS Notification 2019, which includes 39 vacancies reserved for people with 40 per cent of any disabilities recognised under the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016:

8 vacancies for candidates of blindness and low vision
11 vacancies for deaf and hard of hearing
15 vacancies for locomotors disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy
5 vacancies for multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses including deaf-blindness

The final number of vacancies might get changed after getting an exact number of vacancies from Cadre Controlling Authorities.

Vacancies for normal candidates

The number of vacancies for a normal candidate will be 857, and for IAS, there will be 180 vacancies as recommended by the Baswan Committee.

Number of attempts allowed in UPSC exam

UPSC has not changed the number of attempts allowed and the procedure for the same. A candidate appearing in only one paper in the IAS Prelims Exam will also be considered as an attempt in the IAS exam.

Reservation for EWS

The recent decision of Government of India to provide reservation to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of the society will also be incorporated in the UPSC Civil Services exam.

The number of the EWS reserved seats will be around 89 out of which 18 could be of IAS. The final number of vacancies and the reserved seats will be published with the results.

Reservation will be made for candidates from ST, SC, and OBC.

No attempt relaxation for EWS category

There is no relaxation provided to the candidates belonging to the EWS category. The EWS category candidates will only have six attempts if they belong to the general category.

Interview marks of the non-recommended candidates

Candidates will be required to give their options at the time of interview/personality test, while downloading the e-summon letter from the Commission's website for the interview.

A candidate may opt out of the scheme also and in that case his/her details will not be published by the Commission.

Limited capacity of UPSC centres

The candidates will be allotted with the centres on the basis of 'first-apply-first-allot' basis and once the seat at one centre is full, no other candidate will be allotted to that centre.

The candidates must fill out their UPSC forms as early as possible so that they can get the centre of their choice.

Negative marking

Negative marking in the IAS Prelims exam will be followed as in the previous year exams.
